MillerCoors Brewery CHP Plant Tour

Tour sponsored by:

The MillerCoors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, has had a working combined heat and power system since the 1930s, before the end of Prohibition.  The system, owned and operated by ENGIE North America, generates 20 MW of baseload power and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The system has four high pressure steam boilers fueled by natural gas. The system features two 10-MW dual-extraction steam turbines. The plant also has a non-CHP, 20-MW single-extraction condensing turbine for peaking purposes. The steam extracted from the turbines is used for heating processes in the brewery, and to drive ammonia refrigeration compressors.
